The Discipline of Looking Slowly

Why attention—not speed—is still the most valuable tool in a creative practice.

Attention is a material

The strongest work often begins before a sketch is made. It begins with sustained attention: noticing how people move through a place, where language becomes vague, or which image continues to return after the others disappear.

Slowness is not hesitation. It is a way of gathering enough evidence to make a clear decision, then moving without noise.
